This planning guide has been created using the recommendations and checklists from the IES Practice Guide Assisting Students Struggling with Reading: Response to Intervention (RtI) and Multi-Tier Intervention in the Primary Grades (Gersten, et al., 2009).
Suggested Use: Districts and/or schools can use the guide to:
- Conduct an overall "screening" to determine the extent to which research-based recommendations described in the RtI Reading Practice Guide are being implemented within the district or school;
- Determine a district or school's specific strengths and weaknesses related to implementation of Response to Intervention in reading in the primary grades; and
- Develop school improvement plans based on areas of need as determined by completion of the RtI Reading Planning Guide.
