A Framework for Effective Instruction for ELs
This strand will present tools and strategies to provide effective instruction for English learners (ELs). The keynote speaker will explain a framework for evidence-based instruction for ELs, followed by an in-depth practical session on how to build students’ academic language in the upper grades. Subsequent sessions describe specific examples to develop vocabulary content knowledge in the early grades, and address the linguistic complexity of text in the upper grades. The last presenter will share strategies for ELs experiencing significant reading difficulties.
